Spectrum Healthcare Partners seeks a dynamic physician leader to serve as its Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a key member of the Executive Management Team, the CMO will first and foremost be a partner in the strategic leadership of Spectrum Healthcare Partners
Spectrum Healthcare Partners (Spectrum) is Northern New England’s largest physician-owned and directed multi-specialty practice with over 260 physicians specializing in anesthesiology, orthopaedics, pathology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, radiation oncology, radiology, and vascular and interventional services. Spectrum provides clinical and administrative services in its own orthopaedic facilities/ASCs as well as at hospitals, ASCs, and other healthcare facilities throughout Maine and New Hampshire. Spectrum is also involved in a number of other businesses including diagnostic imaging, quality improvement software and systems, and anatomic pathology laboratories.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) role is an executive level position providing medical leadership and oversight to Spectrum Healthcare Partners’ divisions, ensuring the commitment to high quality patient care, efficient medical management, and care delivery innovation. The CMO is responsible for leading Spectrum’s evolution to a more fully integrated multi-specialty healthcare organization and for guiding a process of integration and judicious standardization across the Spectrum system. The CMO is a member of the Executive Management Team and provides a clinical voice and perspective to operational decision making. Reporting to and working in partnership with the CEO and other members of the Executive Management Team, the CMO provides clinical expertise and leadership in strategic planning, growth initiatives, organizational development, quality improvement and our approach to efficient, effective patient care. The CMO must be committed to uphold and practice Spectrum’s vision and mission, while appreciating the interest of its shareholders -- fostering positive, engaged relationships across the organization. The CMO will also be involved with Spectrum’s client organizations, assuring the appropriateness of service agreements and expediting effective performance.
The ideal candidate will be an outstanding and savvy physician leader with excellent clinical credibility and a strong commitment to providing high-quality care. He/she will be a contemporary, forward-looking, and strategic-thinking physician with strong relationship management and political skills, and the demonstrated ability to drive integration across a large practice. The CMO will have seven or more years in a notable medical staff or physician leadership role within a medical group or ambulatory care setting, with experience in physician practice management and in a multi-specialty, independent practice setting preferred.
Spectrum was formed in 1996 as the result of a merger amongst Northeast Anesthesia Professional Association, Maine Pathology Associates, and Radiology Associates of Maine. The physicians of these three practices believed that a well-organized, integrated, physician-led organization could form the backbone of Maine's emerging integrated delivery systems and could provide high quality, comprehensive, medical services that would best meet the needs of patients, employers, insurers, other physicians, managed care organizations and healthcare systems. Beginning in 2014, Spectrum began the process of merging with several orthopaedic practices. In January of 2017, as the result of its growth in size and scope of services, Spectrum rebranded itself as Spectrum Healthcare Partners.
Spectrum’s overarching goal is to participate in and deliver sustainable high-quality healthcare for every community where it delivers services, by adhering to its four key values: Patient-Centeredness, Quality & Value, Leadership, and Collaboration. The evolving marketplace requires healthcare organizations to intentionally manage their future by increasing their size, scope of services, and regional coverage. Key elements of Spectrum’s core strategy include:
Diversification of clinical services and geographic coverage,
Efficient operations combined with “best in class” performance improvement,
Multi-specialty orientation, aimed at improving the processes of care delivery, clinical coordination and care transitions, and outcomes, and
Continuing to be a physician-led and -oriented organization that partners with hospitals, health systems, health plans, employers, purchaser groups, and other physician practices.
Spectrum is organized as a professional services corporation in the State of Maine. It is governed by a Board of Directors whose representatives are selected, in part, by its operating divisions and, in part, by the Shareholders at large.
