General Summary: The Coder works independently, on a daily basis, and is responsible for the abstracting, auditing, appealing and/or coding of medical records and assigning CPT/HCPCS codes, modifiers and ICD-10 diagnosis codes with a high degree of accuracy. Research and stay up to date on coding changes published by CMS and insurance payers and any other governing body.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.
Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
Reviews medical records and physician documentation to audit or code patient charges
Assists provider and practice staff with reviewing provider coding as needed
Reviews coding denial/edits and appeals/corrects codes and claims
Prepares reports as requested
Provides training to clinicians and staff, when required, to improve coding outcomes
Adhere to TPR productivity standards and submits daily productive reports as required
Meet TPR accuracy and quality audit standards
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Education: High school diploma/GED with completion coding program.
Certification: Certified Professional Coding Certificate is required.
Experience: Physician professional coding required with 3+ years of experience preferred in a multispecialty environment for a large physician group or corporation.
